House Rulerships

When a planet is placed in a house, we find that the functions of that planet will be noticed especially in the topics or people that are associated with that house. For a general sense of how the person might approach matters of the house, we can ponder the traits of the sign on the cusp of the house.

But there is a treasure of information that is often overlooked. A planet that rules the sign on the cusp of a house becomes the ruler of that house. The ruler of a house – or more importantly – the condition of it, gives us deeper layers of meaning that are projected back onto the affairs of the house it rules.

This technique is especially useful when assessing empty houses, giving us meaning where we thought there was none.

Vocation and Career

Following last month’s look at the MC-IC axis, this month we will see what the chart has to say about a person’s vocation and career.

The word “vocation” comes from the Latin word “vocare” – to call or to summon. We could say, then, that a person’s vocation is their calling – something they feel pulled to do. For some, the vocation is the career, or certainly, it shows up in the career. For others, a vocation may be something they do on their own time; these people have a career to support themselves, allowing them to pursue their vocation freely.

The MC-IC Axis: Setting Sights High

From deep within our roots at the Imum Coeli, we set our sights on the Medium Coeli and strive to attain its qualities. We are called to achieve recognition for these traits, and we very much admire others who possess them. The MC represents things about our lifestyle we comfortably put on display for the world to see. It is the flag atop our castle.

Relationships

Following along from last month’s look at the Ascendant of the chart – the point which describes how we present ourselves to others – in February, we’ll have a look at the Descendant and the 7th house to see what traits we seek in our significant relationships. We will also learn to interpret the message from the 5th house, telling us how we like to play in relationships before making a serious commitment.

Two very significant planets add to our study of relationships: Venus, the planet that describes, among other things, our relationship style; the Moon, which describes the way in which we care for others and how we want others to care for us.
